Fascinating masjid in Taos. I wasn't aware of the couple or the masjid, but from what I researched, it seems like they were affiliated with the nearby Lama Foundation. There's an interesting backstory here regarding the history of 20th Century American Islam and hippies. While hippies are typically associated with New Age spirituality, Hinduism, and Buddhism, there were many hippies who became Muslim. One of the main routes for hippies to convert to Islam was through the teachings of Brother Samuel L. Lewis whose unorthodox spiritual journey culminated in Islam. Over the years I've met several wonderful people who've been a part of that community, but alas that generation is nearing their end, as many have returned to our Lord. May Allah bless their work and keep their fruit on the straight path.
